Vancouver based dance company Flamenco Rosario has a long history of community involvement through its annual Flamenco Festival, provincial touring, educational initiatives and popular performances. As an interpreter of Flamenco, Artistic Director Rosario Ancer is more interested in the continuing growth and evolution of the art form than in simply reiterating its past. The company is actively engaged in exploring the possibilities for the form by crossing boundaries both of history and culture. We often collaborate with dancers and musicians from diverse backgrounds and cultural traditions in our work. To further enhance our projects, we consistently invite participation by guest artists from other parts of Canada, Mexico and Spain. These guest artists generously share their creativity with our local dance community and local audiences.
Flamenco Rosario has performed at many festivals including Dancing on the Edge (1995), the Vancouver Folk Music Festival (1995), Dawson City Folk Music Festival (1997), and the Westcoast World Music Festival (2000). The company also has toured BC several times and given many lecture demonstrations at elementary and secondary schools throughout the Lower Mainland. In recent years, our activities have focused more on producing work in Vancouver for Lower Mainland residents. |
