Mortal Coil is an interdisciplinary performing arts company with heart and a social conscience whose accomplished artists share a common passion for stilt performance. The society was incorporated in 1991 to further the public’s appreciation, knowledge, and understanding of the multidisciplinary nature and applications of art in its various forms, and the interrelationships of the various forms of art, by producing and presenting performances.

Since then the company has created imaginative performances for audiences of all ages that engage and transport our minds and spirits. Company artists Sharon Bayly, Carrie Nimmo, Bessie Wapp, Carmen Rosen and Denise Galay’s collaborative approach has a grand artistic vision: larger-than-life creatures and characters using theatre, dance, music, stilts, masks and fantastic costuming, brought to life in magical and mythical environments. Mortal Coil has presented in theatres, at festivals, through community workshops, and at site-specific events across Canada, the United States, and in Europe.
