Amber Funk Barton
Born and raised in Vancouver, Amber trained with Goh Ballet Academy, Arts Umbrella, and Ballet BC's Mentor Program. Upon completion, she has worked with various Vancouver companies and choreographers, such as Joe Ink, Judith Marcuse Projects, Mascall Dance, MovEnt, Lola Dance LINK Dance, Marta Marta House of Pride, Wen Wei Wang, Cori Caulfield, and Emily Molnar. Amber also aspires to grow as a choreographer and has had her work presented in various Vancouver venues, such as the Dancing on the Edge Festival, the Dances for a Small Stage series, Bloom, and the Vancouver International Dance Festival. Amber also has been named the inaugural recipient of the Iris Garland Emerging Choreographer Award which resulted in her first production, Threefold, at The Scotiabank Dance Centre in June of 2005. Her second production, 5ive solos later..., which featured commissioned and Funk Barton's own choreographed work was presented shortly after by The Firehall Arts Centre in December of 2005. She was a 2006/07 Artist in Residence at the Dance Centre.
James Gnam
Born in Calgary and raised in Victoria, James received his training at Toronto's National Ballet School, and has danced professionally with Les Grands Ballets Canadiens de Montreal, JoeINK, and dancersdancing. He cites performing in Nicolo Fonte's Like You, James Kudelka's In Paradisum, and Twyla Tharp's Nine Sinatra Songs, as career highlights. James' choreographic credits include Pareidolia and welcome to my space_ship [you're beautiful forever], which have been presented at the MACC's Community Dance Series, the Dancing on the Edge Festival, and Dances for a Small Stage X, among others. This is James' fourth season with Ballet B.C.
Mark Berube
Winner of the 2005 Banned in Canada Award, Mark Berube is "a total original in the tradition of exceptional Canadian singer-songwriters" (Vancouver Province). Based in Vancouver, with Manitoban-Quebecois roots and an African childhood, he brings his unique background to bear on a stylistically diverse musical repertoire, playing the piano, accordian, and guitar, with a voice that disarms his audiences. Mark has toured Canada and Europe. As well he composes music for modern dance and theatre productions.
